# Documents & Editor

> Create files and projects, write in the editor, and manage your work.

> **Where to find it:** Left sidebar → **Writing** [Open in 4TW ↗](https://app.4thewords.com/writing)

The **Writing** area is where you'll spend most of your time in 4thewords. Creating and editing documents, tracking your word counts, and keeping your writing organized. Words you type in the editor count toward your [active battles](/writing/writing-battles/overview) and your daily [writing streak](/writing/writing-streaks/overview).

Two sections under **Writing**: **Files** (individual documents) and **Projects** (organized collections of files). Work with standalone files, or group them into a project with named sections to keep longer works tidy.
