# Writing Streaks
> Track consecutive and non-consecutive writing days, earn Wings and Medals, and build your legacy.
Your Writing Streak tracks how many days you've written 444 or more words. Hit that goal every day to earn Streak Wings, Streak Medals, and other rewards as your streak grows.
Two counters to watch: your **Consecutive Streak** (unbroken run) and your **Total Streak Days** (every writing day, all time).

## Starting and Maintaining Your Streak
1. Open your writing editor and write. Words you type in 4thewords count toward your daily total.
2. Reach **444 words** in a single day to complete your streak goal for that day.
3. Your streak page shows **Today's writing streak: X/444 words**: when you hit 444, the badge switches from **Pending** to **Complete**.
4. Come back the next day and do it again. Each consecutive day adds one to your **Current Streak**.
Each day begins and ends at midnight in your [**Account Timezone**](/account/account-and-settings). If you travel or move, update your timezone so the cutoff stays accurate.
## Consecutive vs. Cumulative Streak
The streak page tracks two separate things, many Dust Warriors confuse them at first.
**Consecutive Streak**
* **Current Streak**: your most recent unbroken run of days
* **Longest Streak**: your personal record
* **Resets to zero** if you miss a day
**Cumulative Streak**
* **Total Streak Days**: every day you've ever written 444+ words, all time
* **Never resets**, no matter how many times your consecutive streak breaks

## Frequently Asked Questions
Writing 444 or more words in any document inside 4thewords on a given day (your midnight to midnight). Words written in external tools (Word, Google Docs, etc.) do not count. You can copy/paste in to get credit.
Your consecutive streak resets to zero, but your Total Streak Days is not affected. You can start building a new consecutive streak the next day. Or use a Stempo to [repair days](/writing/writing-streaks/streak-maintenance).
**Current Streak** counts your unbroken consecutive days right now, it resets when you miss a day. **Total Streak Days** counts every writing day you've ever had across your entire account lifetime, it never resets.
Word counts update in real time as you write. If you just crossed 444 words, wait a moment and refresh the page. If it still doesn't update, check that your document is saved and synced.
If you're writing close to midnight make sure the site has a chance to save before 11:59pm. Also, confirm your Account → Settings → Timezone is set correctly.
