Battle Stats

Your hero has three battle stats that affect how fights play out. You improve them by equipping Battle Items (gear) and Companions from your Inventory.
stat-attack

Attack

Deal more damage to monsters. As your Attack gets higher, your words deal “extra” word damage to your active battle. For example, a 500-word monster can be defeated by writing only 400 actual words. Your words hit harder.
stat-defense

Defense

Add extra time to your battles.Extend the time you have to defeat a monster. For example, a 60-minute battle can stretch to 70+ minutes. Giving you more breathing room to write.
stat-luck

Luck

Increase your chances of better loot.As your Luck gets higher, you’ll get more items from won battles. For example, defeating a monster might drop 2 items instead of 1.
Your current stat totals appear on your hero card in the Inventory. The combined total of all equipped gear and your companion.

For solo and co-op battles, prioritize Attack. For Endurance Battles, prioritize Defense. For farming rare drops, load up on Luck.

Battle Items

Battle Items are your combat loadout. They slot into your hero’s equipment (Weapon 1, Weapon 2, Head, Chest, Feet, and Accessory). and each one boosts one or more of your three battle stats.

Note that Wardrobe items you equip in your Wardrobe editor only customize your character’s look and don’t affect your battle stats.

Companions

Companions are characters that fight alongside you and provide passive stat boosts. You’ll earn them by completing the main story, through the Dragon Lair, and at the Aurilis Magic Academy (Familiars).

Equipping a Companion

  1. Open your Inventory → click the Companion slot.
  2. Select the companion you want and click Set as Companion.
Each companion has a unique combination of Attack, Defense, and Luck bonuses. You can only have one companion equipped at a time.
