Overview

Aurilis Magic Academy is a secondary world map where you attend a magic school and complete a full curriculum, Year 1 and Year 2, earning Exam Points, crafting Potions, bonding with Familiars, and graduating with class scrolls that unlock advanced courses.
The Academy is one of the most content-dense areas in 4thewords, with hundreds of thousands of words of quests across eight classes, four Familiars, and six craftable Potions. Unlike the main story, you can work through it at your own pace alongside your regular writing.

The Curriculum

How Classes Work

How classes work: Base Class quest chain unlocks full course load, every quest awards Exam Points, Class Store and Crystal Store
Every class in the Academy follows the same structure:
  1. Three introductory quests unlock the full course for that class.
  2. Complete course quests to earn Exam Points for that class.
  3. Spend Exam Points at the class’s own market for extra items and rewards.
  4. Complete the “Final Exam” quest to earn your graduation scroll for that class.
Graduation scrolls from Year 1 are prerequisites for Year 2 courses.

Exam Points

Each class has its own Exam Point currency. Points accumulate as you complete quests in that class and are spent at that class’s Class Store. They aren’t interchangeable between classes. Exam Points are also required to purchase Familiars associated with that class. Every class also has a Crystal Store where you can spend Crystals on exclusive Academy cosmetics and house items.
Exam Points don’t expire. There’s no rush to spend them. Accumulate across quests and buy when you’re ready.

Year 1 Classes

Start with Ancient Knowledge. It’s the shortest class and introduces Academy systems before you commit to longer courses. Its graduation scroll also unlocks Thread Magic (and combined with Spells, Void Magic).
Academy curriculum progression: Acceptance to School, Year 1 (~100k words), Year 2 (~150k words), Year 3, Year 4, Alumnus (500k+ words)
Year 1 class cards: Ancient Knowledge (Easy, ~23k words), Alchemy (Average, ~36k words), Astrology (Average, ~26k words), Spells (Hard, ~26k words)

Ancient Knowledge (~23,000 words)

Location: Academy Library | Professor: Bartholemus (endurance monster)
Ancient Knowledge class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, extra credit, Final Exam requirements and rewards
The introductory class and the shortest in Year 1. Covers the language of magic. Has 6 class monsters and 18 quests. The final stage features Professor Bartholemus as an endurance battle. Recommended first class if you’re new to the Academy.

Alchemy (~36,000 words)

Location: Enchanted Forest
Alchemy class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, extra credit, Final Exam, and Cobaltean Familiar unlock
A mid-length class with 6 monsters and 19 quests. Some quests require items that drop from monsters in other Year 1 classes. So you may need to run Alchemy alongside Ancient Knowledge or Astrology rather than sequentially. Completing Alchemy unlocks battles against the Cobaltean Familiar.

Astrology (~26,000 words)

Location: Observatory
Astrology class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, extra credit, Final Exam, and Galaxy Familiar unlock
A shorter class with 6 monsters and 22 quests. Completing Astrology unlocks battles against the Galaxy Familiar. This class also has 6 hidden quests that become available when you wear certain Wardrobe items or own certain House items.

Spells (~35,000 words)

Location: Spells Dungeon
Spells class breakdown: base class, Blue Dungeons, Red Dungeon (must complete in one go), extra credit, Final Exam
The hardest Year 1 class. Contains 6 monsters, 26 quests, timed quests, and a special challenge: the Red Dungeons section must be completed in a single continuous pass from beginning to end. If you leave or fail partway through, you restart the Red Dungeons from scratch.
Approach the Red Dungeons when you have uninterrupted writing time. Leaving mid-run resets your progress to the start of the Red Dungeons section.

Year 2 Classes

Year 2 classes are significantly longer than Year 1 and require completing the corresponding Year 1 graduation scroll before you can begin. Each Year 2 class is located in the same area as its Year 1 partner. The area gets an additional Quest Market for the Year 2 course.
ClassLocationProfessorApprox. WordsPrerequisite

Mirror MagicObservatoryProf. Aylin~73,000+Astrology scroll
Void MagicSpells DungeonProf. Wynncott~62,000Ancient Knowledge + Spells scrolls
Fungi StudiesEnchanted ForestProf. Perrenne~80,000Alchemy scroll
Year 2 is a long commitment. The four classes collectively require hundreds of thousands of words. Treat them as long-term goals you chip away at alongside your regular writing.
Every Year 2 class has its own Class Store (items cost Exam Points + Coins) and a Crystal Store (exclusive cosmetics and house items purchasable with Crystals).

Thread Magic (~65,000+ words)

Location: Academy Library | Professor: Guest Lecturer Kultalva
Thread Magic class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, Final Exam (~10,690 words), 16 quests, 5 monsters
The study of magical threads: on the surface it teaches knitting and pattern-making, but beneath that lies deeper lessons about the threads that unite destinies, fields of knowledge, and lives. As you advance, you’ll craft additional pieces with your Exam Points at the class store.

Mirror Magic (~73,000+ words)

Location: Observatory | Professor: Prof. Aylin
Mirror Magic class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, Final Exam (~11,275 words), 15 quests, 5 monsters
High above the school, students channel the worlds beyond by harnessing the power of mirrors and reflective surfaces. This class will push you upwards of 73,000 words, not including the thesis. The Exam Credit store features an assortment of broken mirror pieces.

Void Magic (~62,000 words)

Location: Spells Dungeon | Professor: Prof. Wynncott
Void Magic class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, Final Exam (~14,500 words), 16 quests, 5 monsters, requires Spells + Ancient Knowledge scrolls
Studies the Void. Another dimension where gravity breaks down, giving way to mostly non-physical beings. Void Magic was originally a Year 3 class but was moved up to Year 2 after the Void Portal appeared during the Starfall 2024 event.
Void Magic requires two Year 1 scrolls, so complete both Ancient Knowledge and Spells before starting it. It also features a Void Wignow endurance battle with a challenging 6-minute timer.

Fungi Studies (~80,000 words)

Location: Enchanted Forest | Professor: Prof. Perrenne
Fungi Studies class breakdown: base class quests, 4 subjects, Final Exam (~14,650 words), 16 quests, 5 monsters including a 2,000-word Co-Op monster
Studies magic-infused fungi found in the depths of the Enchanted Forest. From tiny cute fungi to giant co-op snakes, this class has it all, including co-op battle monsters unique to Fungi Studies. The Crystal Store even includes a Mushroom House for your hideout.
The Academy curriculum is ongoing, with Year 3, Year 4, and Alumnus stages are planned, and new classes will be added over the years. The curriculum image shows the full progression up to 500k+ words at the Alumnus level.

Familiars

The four Familiars: Whodini (0/12/0, cheaper Token Store), Mund (4/4/4, transmute items), Alderbam (0/0/12, permanent moon monsters), Chysis (12/0/0, extra Red Dungeons)
The Academy has four Familiars you can unlock. Magical creatures that become companions and Wardrobe/hideout pets. Familiars are purchased from the Familiar Market in the Assembly Hall. Each requires a combination of Exam Points from its associated class plus other crafting materials. You can also encounter each Familiar as a battle monster in the Academy. Fight them to earn mastery and drops, or purchase them from the market when you have the requirements.

Potions

The five Potions: Freeze (pause battle), Fire Grenade (10% HP damage), Slow Hex (+15 min), Blast (1,000 damage to queue), Inflate (+10% time)
The Academy’s Potion Market (Assembly Hall) sells six types of Potions. Powerful battle tools available nowhere else in the game.
